No need for gay Catholics to seek pope’s acceptance

To the Editors:
Re: “ATL gay archbishop leads in Reformed Catholic Church” (news, April 25)

Let me first say that I am a gay Catholic and I do not belong to the Roman Church. With that said, I have a hard time understanding how the Roman church pushes its views on gays when all we have to do is not listen, not participate in the Roman church. Nobody dragged anyone into the church.

Let me ask the gay Roman Catholics this: When and who was the last pope that endorsed homosexuality? The answer: never! Not one pope has embraced gay Roman Catholics into the church. I understand the love for the church, the sacraments and etc.… but, there are plenty of independent Catholic churches in the USA with valid priests and bishops where the sacraments mean the very same thing.

The Roman Church will never acknowledge homosexuality. What we should do is show love and compassion with the Roman Church instead of chaining ourselves to the door or lining up with gay flags in front of the pope like Soulfource does, which is absolutely disgusting to me and the Church. I find it odd that gay Roman Catholics continue to want to fight a losing battle with the Vatican. Put that energy somewhere positive in the church or leave and go to the independent movement especially when Rome is not going to change its view.

I view the pope as the Head of State and the Archbishop of Rome, that is it, and he puts his pants on the same way I do. I do not worship him because I worship Christ.

Hagee isn’t only anti-gay pastor to endorse McCain

To the Editors:
Re: “Pastors over policy” (editorial by Laura Douglas-Brown, May 2)

Televang
elist Rod Parsley endorsed Sen. John McCain for president at a campaign rally on February 26, 2008, calling McCain a “strong, true, consistent conservative.” During the Cincinnati rally, McCain praised Parsley, calling him “a spiritual guide.” The mutual admiration between the two men could present problems for McCain, if the media decides to treat the Arizona senator with the same scrutiny as the other two candidates remaining in the race.

Parsley does not like gay people, and there are videos with the pastor vowing to, “lift my voice against the agenda of America’s tortured and angry homosexuals,” and condemning the U.S. Supreme Court for “legalizing the perverted act of sodomy.” Clearly, Parsley hopes a McCain Supreme Court will reverse the sodomy decision, and allow states to criminalize gay Americans once again. Parsley’s organization, the Center for Moral Clarity, has also called for prosecuting people who commit adultery.

Another problem for McCain could be Parsley’s vocal hatred of all things Islam. The Ohio pastor has called upon Christians to wage a “war” against Islam with the aim of eradicating it. Parsley has written that, “America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion destroyed,” and he does not differentiate between violent Islamic extremists and other followers of the religion.

Would John McCain have called Rod Parsley a “spiritual guide” if the pastor had said, “one mission of our nation was to destroy Judaism?” Hatred against one group could be hatred against any group, and McCain’s silence over Parsley’s incendiary and divisive comments calls into question the candidate’s credibility and judgment.

Hypercritical gay activists make us all look like pansies

Re: “Gay voters in Ind., N.C. relish primary role” (news, May 2)

When gays assume that pansy is referring to them they are giving the word power over them. Maybe N.C. Gov. Mike Easley just meant weak. There is nothing to indicate that he meant to say that “Hillary Clinton makes Rocky Balboa look like a homosexual.” It’s crap like this that makes the gay community look like a bunch of pansies!

Atlanta Pride should dump big sponsors over trans inclusion

Re: “Atlanta Pride turns away HRC sponsorship over trans fight” (news, May 9)

Hey, how about we test the true depth of support for transgender protections? The Pride Committee should also return Delta’s, Home Depot’s and Verizon’s sponsor fees and see if Atlanta’s gay community steps up to cover the loss of revenue. Easy to tell HRC to f-off, but takes integrity to tell the others. What a bunch of phoneys.

Gay movement about love; HRC just loves money

Re: “Kathy Najimy: ‘This movement is all about love’” (news, May 2)

The movement for gay equality is about love, but HRC is about the love of money. These creeps have become a part of the problem, not a part of the solution, a corporate lobby not a movement, and we need to thank them for their prior service and pop their bubble before they get any worse. What if they threw an overpriced banquet and nobody went?

Few know about AIDS awareness license tag

Re: “AIDS license plate struggles to reach Ga. bumpers” (news, May 2)

I did not even know the tag was available or how you can apply.

Editors’ note: You must request the AIDS license tag at your county tag office and pay a $25 fee, which will be refunded if the tag is not manufactured. You do not have to wait until it is time to renew your car tag. For more information, visit www.aidssurvivalproject.org
