If
you
put
lipstick
on
a
Log
Cabin
endorsement... Re:
“Why
Log
Cabin
stands
with
Sen.
McCain”
(op-ed
by
LCR
President
Patrick
Sammon,
Sept.
12)
To
the
Editors:
How
unfortunate
that
Patrick
Sammon
and
Log
Cabin
apparently
do
not
grasp
how
incredibly
important
this
election
will
be
to
the
well
being
of
LGBT
Americans
and
women
for
decades
to
come.
As
close
as
the
contest
between
McCain
and
Obama
is,
it
is
inconceivable
that
they
encourage
anyone
to
vote
for
McCain
when
he
has
already
made
clear
that
his
court
appointments
will
be
the
most
reactionary
right-wing
conservatives
he
can
find.
Those
appointments
will
haunt
us
for
years.
I
am
not
a
single
issue
voter
either,
but
can
he
not
see
that
Republicans
have
totally
destroyed
the
myth
that
they
are
better
on
foreign
policy,
the
economy,
jobs,
energy,
healthcare,
and
taxes?
Republicans,
in
addition
to
using
us
for
"red
meat"
(and
of
course,
they
still
are)
have
presided
over
the
collapse
of
our
standing
in
the
world
and
the
total
meltdown
of
our
economy.
The
only
energy
policy
they
have
is
"drill,
drill,
drill.”
How
shocking
and
sad
that
Log
Cabin
may
actually
help
destroy
some
of
the
progress
that
we
as
LGBT
Americans
have
made
in
recent
years.
WINSTON
JOHNSON
Atlanta
To
the
Editors:
I
read
the
paper
today
and
thought
my
breakfast
was
ruined
when
I
read
the
article
by
Patrick
Sammon,
president
of
the
Log
Cabin
Republicans.
I
was
angry
at
first
and
then
re-read
it.
I
get
it
now;
it
was
satire.
Nobody
who
is
gay
and
lived
through
the
last
eight
years
could
be
serious
with
these
views.
If
I
ever
get
depressed,
I’ll
remember
Partick’s
words,
Sen.
McCain
is
running
an
inclusive
campaign
and
he’ll
run
an
inclusive
administration.
I
am
laughing
while
I
write
this.
Thanks
for
the
good
laugh.

No
excuse
for
Cotillion’s
double
standard
To
the
Editors:
Travis
George
submitted
a
rambling,
repetitive
tirade
(“SoVo
wrong
to
criticize
a
gay
HIV
fundraiser,”
Mailbox,
Sept.
19)
against
Laura
Douglas-Brown’s
editorial
on
the
Cotillion
(“No
place
at
Cotillion’s
table,”
Sept.
5),
so
I
am
prompted
to
write
the
congratulatory
letter
to
SoVo
that
I
conceived
when
I
first
read
the
editorial.
SoVo
was
more
than
fair
in
giving
Mr.
George
inordinate
space.
His
rant
is
completely
off
base.
SoVo
had
every
right
to
publish
that
editorial
and
was
right
to
do
so.
How
people
in
tuxedos,
including
women,
could
destroy
the
tradition
of
a
Cotillion,
I
cannot
imagine.
Nothing
Mr.
George
wrote
addresses
this
double
standard,
and
nothing
could
ever
excuse
this
injustice:
men
could
wear
dresses
or
tuxedos,
but
women
were
to
wear
dresses.
No
matter
how
you
look
at
it,
this
requirement
is
wrong.
It
should
never
have
occurred
to
anyone
to
voice
it,
and
especially
not
in
the
LGBT
community.
Nobody
faulted
Editor
Chris
Crain
for
highlighting
in
SoVo
the
anti-gay
attack
he
and
his
partner
suffered
in
Holland.
Why
fault
Ms.
Douglas-Brown?
Another
case
of
double
standard?

What
about
holding
Pride
at
Georgia
Tech? Re:
“Which
way
to
Atlanta
Pride?”
(news,
Sept.
12)
One
possible
Pride
location
was
missing
from
the
list
—
Georgia
Tech.
Late
June/early
July
weekends
should
be
pretty
quiet
there,
it’s
in
Midtown
and
near
MARTA,
has
large
facilities
both
outdoors
(parade
ending
at
Dodd
Stadium?)
and
indoors
and
you
would
think
it
would
be
easy
to
shut
down
streets
there
as
well.
Alums

support
gay

“Berry

seek

recognition”
(news,

I
have
sent
a
letter
to
Jeanne
Mathews
with
my
concerns
regarding
BC’s
stance.
I
am
a
Berry
College
alumni
and
financial
contributor.
I
encourage
other
alumni
to
do
the
same.
Let’s
reach
out
to
Kaitlin
and
see
how
we
can
help.
Of
course
I
support
the
club,
but
has
anyone
noted
the
irony
of
consciously
choosing
to
go
to
a
Christian
university
and
expecting
acceptance?

Ben,
you

Good

Elliott
